Mary sings the song we know as the Magnificat. As she has reflected on God having chosen her to bear the Messiah, she is filled with wonder and adoration and it burst out in these verses of praise. Her song is all about the God who is the, ‘same yesterday, today and forever’ as he deals with humanity. He is constantly at work in history to lift up the lowly who honour him, like Mary herself, and to bring down the mighty who honour themselves.
